FIRM

Architecture isn’t just about a building. Rather, it’s about a creative process that moves from an abstract notion to a tangible outcome. In between come brainstorms, decisions, revisions, and a whole lot of dust. And at Sturman Architects you get something more – a sincere commitment to “partnership.”

Sturman Architects specializes in projects that require sharp attention to detail, whether in the sensitive use of space, the design of unique yet functional floor plans, or the careful choice of materials and finishes. We have earned a reputation as exacting planners and problem solvers, resulting in smooth, cooperative relationships with clients and contractors. Most of our work is for high-end single-family residences in Seattle and surrounding areas, but also includes commercial, high-tech, and tenant improvement projects.

Regardless of the size of the project, our goal is always the same – to achieve a timeless design resulting from the optimal merging of functional, aesthetic, and budgetary requirements.

Our job is to be your advocate. Principle architect, Brad Sturman, takes this role seriously. His vigilance begins during the initial creative sessions, and lasts through the final touches on finishes, interiors, and landscaping. He is your personal guide as the project moves from an abstraction to a real structure – resulting in architecture that surpasses expectation.

Our Philosophy

Architecture is a reflection of today’s society, current fashion, and advances in technology. My job as an architect is to embrace what is modern, while creating a timeless design that withstands the test of time.

Architecture is spatial sculpture – it integrates the topography of the land with exterior form and interior space. The dynamic of this integration is what creates the unique qualities of each particular project. Ultimately, architecture is about the people who use the space and how they experience the creative balance between the aesthetic and the functional environment.

Residential projects have the added element of emotional attitudes and deeply held values. A successful home design marries all these aspects seamlessly, resulting in well-balanced and inspiring spaces that reflect the client’s ideas and lifestyle.

I have learned beyond doubt that an outstanding project results from a respectful and communicative collaboration among client, architect, contractor, and other design professionals. It is a team approach that extends from initial design through construction and completion.

To a large degree, my role as an architect is that of an educator. I guide my clients through unfamiliar territory, teaching them the language, concepts, and practical aspects of design, engineering, and construction. And I listen and learn as well. My clients teach me how they want to live. Together we create a holistic, beautiful, and functional solution in which we can all take great pride.

ABOUT BRADLEY J. STURMAN

900px-3733Brad Sturman has practiced architecture in the Puget Sound region since 1987, including select projects throughout the United States. Since establishing his own firm in 1996, the majority of his projects have been exclusive high-end residences for discriminating clients. Special commercial projects continue to be added to his repertoire.

Such broad-reaching experience developed Brad’s uncanny ability to understand complex challenges, find smart solutions, and synthesize all the elements into beautiful designs that always stay focused on the ultimate purpose – to please the end user while creating lasting value.

Brad Sturman started training in the arts at a young age. Encouraged by his parents, he learned painting, drawing, ceramics, and other endeavors. Partially exposed to the jewelry business, he became a fine jewelry artist, a skill that supported him through graduate school. Brad credits this training as an important contribution to his refined eye and attention to detail. His easygoing manner belies the fact that Brad will not stop until he “gets it right,” a fact that often results in long-term friendships with his clients.

In addition to his interest in the arts, Brad is an unabashed “foodie.” and wine enthusiast. He enjoys cooking and entertaining, and is a longstanding member of the prestigious Chaine des Rotisseurs, The American Institute of Wine and Food.
